The soldering discussion earlier today reminded me of this. I wanted a heat gun but something small enough to use under dashes or cars when laying on my back with limited space. A tech I know recommended this last year and its great. I’ve used it for heat shrink tubing, loosening glued together objects like some corroded MOMO aluminum sill plates that had adhesive backs and have warmed plastic parts that would be brittle in cold weather so I could remove them without cracking. Depending on where you go they seem to be $15 to $20 at craft and hobby shops.

The best thing so far was unclipping the neutral safety switch plugs from the switch on a GM truck. They seem glued together but its just circuit board varnish that melts into the plug when the switch goes bad. It made the glue like goo and I was able to remove it without having to buy wiring pigtails.

Its pretty nice for another thing. If you want to take an old adhesive shipping label off a cardboard box it does it pretty well, and you’ll know its getting too hot when the label starts to turn brown.

You can also use it to make your bong a vaporizer.

Good morning Dave. We corresponded earlier about my ‘13 Impala (salvage title, I just bought it) and its VVT engine. The car only came with one fob, and Chevrolet wants $140 for a new one. There is a plethora of aftermarket fobs out there for a small fraction of that price. Can you recommend one such?

They work fine if its easily programmed, making sure it has the same FCC frequency number is the main thing. Then just go on price. Many of the GM ones are made in China and so are most aftermarkets, so the quality is a mute point.

I have a friend who is an independent shop owner who says he can program one for me “all day long.”

Thanks for the reply. You’re a damn fine Oppo, Sir.
